Treatment of frontal lobe dementia and the duration of the disease
The duration of the disease will vary from patient to patient. There are some patients who decline slowly over ten or 12 years. Other patients display a sharp decadence in mental capacities over a period of 2/3 years. For some the changes will be minimal, for others it will be drastic.
Patients who have contracted FTD can live with the disease for around 8 years at an average. But the total range of duration can be 3 years to 17 years, in short there have been patients who have lived with FTD for more than 16 years.
Doctors and scientists haven't yet discovered any medication to cure or prevent or treat FTD. Sometimes a few medicines are prescribed to alleviate behavioral problems that can boost serotonin secretion - the feel good hormone in the brain.
